Weekend in Amsterdam : 3 Days Itinerary Ideas

The city of Van Gogh, the city of Anne Frank and the city of canals, Amsterdam enthrals. As you plan to visit the city over the weekend, you’ll be amazed at the options Amsterdam offers for you to explore. First and foremost, you should and you must know that Amsterdam is all about dreamy art, flowy romance and a vibe that will make you wander in a parallel universe. Without a doubt, the city is one of the best examples of old meets new and an Amsterdam in 3 days itinerary is a wonderful way to indulge into the city’s bewildering beauty!

To explore the city, the best way is to hire a bike. The city is full of bikers and hence, has well-maintained biking paths. You can find a rental store at every corner and enjoy the city at your own pace. For laid-back vacationers, commuting on boats on the dreamy canals is also a great option.
To make the most of your trip to Amsterdam, you can start by visiting the top attractions like Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Rembrandt House Museum, the Royal Palace, The Jewish Historical Museum, The Old Church. Overwhelming and brilliant in its own way, each of these can be visited by a guided tour, for a better understanding of the city.

Bursting with old charm, an interesting fact is that the city has more than 6000 buildings that are at least 200 years old. So, if you want to skip the museums to avoid crowding your Amsterdam trip for 3 days, you can just take a walking tour of the city and explore the landmarks as you go.

On your visit, make sure you taste the city’s nightlife. Replete with cafes, bars and nightclubs, the city practically never sleeps and is one of the best party cities in Europe. If you are not visiting Amsterdam with family and kids, you can also add the Red-Light District to your 3 days in Amsterdam trip plan. There are also few guided tours that you can book with your itinerary, to visit the Red-Light District. For a more sophisticated experience, you can catch a concert at Jimmy Woo or the Concertgebouw.

If you are travelling to Amsterdam on a small budget, you can skip the guided tours and explore more of the free attractions and experiences offered by the city. Begijnhof, Grachtengordel and Vondelpark are few top picks. You can also of course, spend time breathing in the charm of the city, along the canals!

For kids, attractions like Artis Royal Zoo and Amstelpark offer a fun-filled experience. Van Gogh’s selected sections can also be interesting and understandable to the kids and if you want to start your kids early on arts, this is a right pick. The Anne Frank House is also a nice place to take your slightly older (12+) kids to, especially if they’ve already read the book ‘Diary of Anne Frank’.
Feeling inspired? Plan your Amsterdam itinerary 3 days on these lines and have a great weekend in the city!

This large museum in the Avenidas Novas region of Lisbon was made in accordance to the last will and testament of Calouste Gulbenkian and houses the art collection owned by his foundation. This extensive collection includes works, mostly from ancient history but also some from the modern era. The building is a stunning, bold structure of concrete and wrought iron which is a work of art in itself really.

The Lisbon Oceanarium and Lisbon Zoo

Both of these are separate venues but one should add at least one of these to their Lisbon vacation. The Zoo’s conservation program is a great cause to visit the zoo and witness while the oceanarium is a vast waterside aquarium that includes myriads of fish and other aquatic species. These spots are both perfect of families travelling together or even the average traveller looking for a day of fun and relaxation. As an added bonus, the aquarium is right by the water and is great to visit during the evening as one can then dine at one of the many restaurants along the water (Pateo Restaurante comes highly recommended) and, for the adult traveller, perhaps even visit the Casino Lisboa which really rounds out an evening out in the beautiful, scenic city of Lisbon.
